While writing your manuscript, you should record it in multiple places. Keep a manual copy (hand-written), a typed copy, an electronic copy (e-mail a typed copy to yourself), and save a copy on a CD or USB flash drive. For the protection of your intellectual property, insert a copyright symbol, year, and your full name (e.g.,Copyright 2016 Jane Doe) onto any medium used to record your work. Even if you haven't actually obtained a copyright, a thief will be less likely to try to claim it as their own if they believe it's already legally protected.
