Creativity

I won't mince words here; in order to write a book, to be a true author, one needs to have a very creative mind.  Of course we've all heard of writer's block and, indeed, all writers are prone to experiencing this as we deal with life's issues, stresses, and the like.  But, if you have writer's block your entire life, you most likely don't possess the creativity it takes to be a writer.  In that case, you'll either need to explore other avenues available in order to see your name on the cover of a book or pursue a different line of work.
